This is a not an accident. It’s a disaster waiting to happen…
A tragic happening near the end of the year. Something that could have been prevented to begin with!
[Project Zeta] can only offer the hearthfelt sorrow to those who are effected by this tragic event. Also I can only felt angry as this event should have been prevented to begin with as the party that handels the permit for this renovation gave the company the green light without checking the details – are dodging responsibility and accountability.
To begin with sourcing and purchasing the safety equipment with this renovation project – should be a yes or no ordeal. Not a maybe.
You either obtain the safety equipment that is certified by external parties or not. Anything else doesn’t matter and shouldn’t be a factor in the final decision. “Price is high so we have to purchase an alternative” – “We cannot obtain the in time so we have to settle with an alternative supplier” should not be an excuse for this purchasing activity. We are talking about a product that has a lot of regulations for a reason. We have (or should I say had) a party that is responsible in giving the checks on whether this product is deemed fit on the regulations or not. But what happened?
Certainly it is not the bamboo’s fault and now the media and the responsible party is pointing at styrofoam boards that is used to shield windows from the exterior renovation. It still doesn’t add up if everything is fire prooved or passed the safety check by the responsible party that handels permits. What we got is that when checked the responsible party that gave out the permits told the public that a lot of the materials aren’t up to standard. But I wonder who’s responsible for checking this I wonder….
Even [Project Zeta] – an individual non-governmental company takes things seriously by doing sampling check and also do have double verification from third parties when necessary. Again….you either have the needed product or not. This is like a chef is asking you to get an A5 Wagyu Steak and you have gotten an A1 Wagyu steak because of the better price and they are both Wagyu Steak….
Again I felt nothing but pure sadness and also anger that such a traigc event where to happen in 2025 in a supposedly “advanced country”. If this doesn’t smell like corruption or mismanagement of regulations then I don’t know what is. I hope there are more bodies that regulate this more often.
What makes things worst is that citizens of Hong Kong are “sampling” the renovation materials of their buildings now and found out a lot of the materials aren’t fire prove. This job shouldn’t be passed down to citizens in the first place….I guess the ones giving out permits should be the one doing it am I correct?
